The term "rock art " is problematical , the concept of art being a modern one etc . but it's unlikely to go away now , the alternatives are too clumsy .
I find it visually very appealing , in that I prefer it to any other production usually referred to as "art" .

It's possible to be artistic and practical e.g. , design , signage , etc . arguably that is what is found in RA although in different ratios depending on the example . Maybe in extreme cases the artistic may also prove to be the most effective practically such as apotropiasm .
