I'm going to make sure that I get my backlog of photographs and sites etc posted on here - a few every day. I've been guilty of using facebook a lot lately rather than here....It's important that we don't abandon TMA. There are so many great sites that people want to visit, when they visit Ireland and directions, ideas and tips are always welcome. I've relied on other peoples directions from here... so let's not get disheartened. Let's just carry on posting !.........

Trouble with Facebook is it's very 'Me' orientated. I think TMA has a lot more class; you are in effect simply adding information into the communal database for others to use as opposed to saying 'look at me'.

I'm not so sure, this site seems to cater for people (in Ireland anyway) who already have an interest in the topic or are actively looking for info on a place they know about. I posted a pic on Facebook of Haroldstown Dolmen and it was shared hundreds of times, went all around the world and came back to me a couple of times.

Only a handful of people knew where exactly it originated or really cared enough to find out, it was the image itself that carried the name of the site from person to person. There were literally hundreds of comments asking where it was, others saying they grew up nearby and plenty saying they had to go see it.

The Irish 'Heritage Council' sent out a press release last week to say their budget for grants to fund heritage initiatives has basically been squeezed out of existence, so these sites need all the promotion they can get or they may fall off the radar completely in favour of those that generate revenue.

You're exactly right. With no budget these days it's up to us to promote whether it be through facebook or whatever. The only problem with facebook is that it's fleeting, once something is out there it soon becomes lost as new stuff is put up.
