Anglesey stones .

Seeing a recent Postie pic of the standing stone at Bryn Celli Ddu and the well defined peaks in the distance prompted a bit of checking some of the Anglesey standing stones (about 27 , including some pairs ) possible “alignments “ with the peaks on their horizons . Most of the peaks belong to the Snowdon range but some of the hills in the lleyn peninsula are also within view . I chose nine of the stones and checked for every peak that could have been visible , even if today there was a hedge or trees in the way .The stones were Cremlyn ,Graiglas, Bryn Cell Ddu ,Bod Deinol ,Burwen ,Carreg leidir ,Trefwri ,Malltaeth and Bryn Dryfydog . There were about 18 different prominent peaks chosen but not all stones had anything like that number in view . Anytime I have done similar tests the numbers of “ hits “ are what you would expect by chance , a bit like stone circles and other monuments peaks are not often chosen for alignments with astro events . Of the 60 or so results the most intriguing was Graiglas which had three possible hits a solstice ,major standstill and minor standstill but it is also the one stone that was probably erected in the recent past ,as it is not mentioned on any old maps . Anyway fwiw there were some hits Bryn Celli Ddu is very close to the major standstill event as seen over the peak of Moel Eilio , The winter solstice sunrise would be seen over Mynd Mawr as seen from Malltraeth ,the major standstill event would be seen it’s maximum over Trum Y Ddysgll ,and the southern stone at Cremlyn is aligned on the winter solstice sunrise as seen over Yr Elen .One thing worth mentioning it did look like many of the stones were quite close to water courses with one group just above the various Afons that cut across the island near Llangefni .
