A West Country piece of toilet tissue really seems to have outdone itself on this occasion and a feature in it smacks of the, 'mock the ban-the-bombers' and 'down with the communist and yellow-peril' witchhunts of the 60s. For heaven's sake, when you read invective like 'Warlike Pagans', 'Solstice-goers', 'Radical Pagan Groups' it makes you realize how backward this little gutter press is and how small-minded the councillors, 'authorities' and bumpkins are in this neck of the woods.
"For years local residents have complained of disruption, all-night parties, noise, anti-social behaviour, traffic and parking problems in the days either side of the important midsummer festival."*
Oh for god's sake - what do these residents expect living in a World Heritage Site of deep and important meaning to thousands who visit Avebury every year - tea and crumpets on a sunny solstice afternoon? I've been in Avebury on many a solstice and there's never been anything other than goodwill and a festive atmosphere - even the police enjoyed themselves!
"All sides in the dispute are now working on setting up a park-and-ride scheme for the event, and investigating a long-term solution for the years to come."*
Really? Then don't keep talk about it as you have for god-knows how many years. Don't generate bad feeling, just f*cking well do something about it!
