it was lovely at stanton drew last weekend but i thought again how rectangular several of the stones are - particular those in the north east circle. has anything been written of this? is it a quarrying thing, complete fluke or intentional shaping?
also, any news on when this wonderful place will be investigated further? - it seems extraordinary that so little is known about it - or that the magnetic survey hasn't been followed up - and there must surely be a case for a compulsory purchase order so that the small circle can be re-integrated into the main site.
the quoit is a sorry sight - and convincned me more than ever of the worth of selective reconstruction and re-erection
