However we got lost on the same walk in Haverah park (ancient hunting park) and found a strange mound with next to a stream with a flat a 4ft stone standing at the end of it. >

Was this anywhere near the old Haverah Park Lodge (now a farm)? Cos near here in 1871 William Grainge wrote: "is a fine group of rocks, among which are a druidical idol and altar, yet complete." We never looked for this, so its status is unknown. It's described as close to one of the nearby reservoirs to the north of Little Almscliffe.
