I tend to think that perhaps some locals aren't as proud of their horse as they should be as I have read and heard many moan about the fact that it was recut by Mr Gee and that somehow lessens it in their minds.

The concrete business is typical of the heritage industry though isn't it ? They take over what was kept scoured with chalk by volunteers and look for a cheap long term solution that doesn't involve the community. They resolve it with concret and end up making it look horrible. The two tone vertical stripe is what makes it worse, even painting it would be better than it is now.

No solution will be cheap one suspects, look at how much the repairs of the Cherhill horse were - its on the HA site.
