Are there any examples where bodies were buried inside the mound but not in chambers, the chambers being preserved for the chief etc ?

on a slightly different subject but one that ties in...when were the earliest recorded excavations of long barrows carried out? it is just that i found reference to the the Stipple Stones henge on Bodmin Moor today that dates back to QE I.

Some one said earlier that very little bone is found in the chambers...how do we know they were not robbed of anything of "value" prior to modern times?
