Taking pictures....

This, surely, is one of the most evocative, magical, enchanting, and ethereal ancient sites in the world. Looking at the pictures, I wondered: Is it even possible to take a BAD picture of Castlerigg? It seems this ancient site will tolerate no picture short of stunning. I suppose the landscape is so utterly superlative and perfect that the pictures simply reflect that: there is no blight, no smudge of ugliness; one of the few last sacred places of completeness. It requires little effort to whisk oneself back thousands of years to the time when such a site was integral to local social and religious life. The fact that it has changed so little over those centuries is incredible. It is no small wonder this area was chosen for such a circle.
