Here's a quote from this weeks Devizes Gazette and Herald, (June 26th 2003), taken from their article on the Solstice:
"Police get tough on illegal parking, but sun shines through at dawn as solstice revellers rejoice."
"There were 25 police officers on duty At Avebury over the weekend, and they did there best to minimise the nuissance for villagers"
"Police however, made no drugs arrests in line with their policy of booking the pushers and not the users."
"Police commander Insp Bill Dowling said the only arrest of the weekend was for drink driving" and that "it was a very successful weekend and a lot of the villagers told me it was the best yet."
Could they be refering to Pete's wrongfull arrest!
"Fifty three cars left at the road side... were towed away...taken to swindon...were owners had to pay £105 to recover them...another 100 drivers were booked for illegal parking"
"As they feared villages were besieged for more than 48 hours"
" The Summer solstice attracted an estimated 3000 people"
