The carved stone is now located at Penrith Museum, it was found on Stag Stones farm, during work on a gas pipeline.

Buttony (Cup and Ring Marks / Rock Art)

It has been two years since i took those last pictures of Buttony, so decided that the weather was perfect, conditions were perfect. This was the ideal time to try the side flash and it seems to have worked, after a few tries i managed to get the exact angle on the carvings that i needed. I was unlucky not to have caught a couple of stoats in shot, both ran right in front of us, one of them stopped on the panel, looked at us for a couple of seconds then ran off, just missed that shot.

Culnoag (Cup and Ring Marks / Rock Art)

First uncovered by the farmer at Culnoag while ploughing the fields, reported and recorded in 1976 by Ronald Morris.

I visited the farm yesterday to ask permission to look for the carvings, the farmers wife told me you will not find them, they had been in the farm since 1980 and had not found the carvings.
Luckily on leaving the farm i was able to let the farmer know his carvings were still there and were once again safe under their turf blanket.

Senhouse Museum (Cup and Ring Marks / Rock Art)

The 2 portables at the Senhouse Museum in Maryport, were found east of Bank End Lane near Barney Gill (a small stream), panel 2 was found in 1883, while panel 1 was found in 1887.
The numbering of the portables if after Stan Beckinsall in his Prehistoric Rock Art of Cumbria book.

Interesting article on Maryport and the landscape around the Senhouse Museum, and indeed the possible link to the carved rocks.
From Galloway, i walk the land in search of prehistoric rock art.
