Details of Long Barrow on Pastscape

A long barrow, (Grinsell's Heytesbury 4), a number of inhumations located at the southern end. Human remains noted within a badger hole on the mound

(ST 92494417) Long Barrow (GT) (1)
A long barrow oriented N-S, 160 ft long, 90 ft wide and 6 ft high (2) with side ditches visible on AP's (5). Excavated by Cunnington and Wyndham in 1800 and later, when 'a great many skeletons" were found at the south end. (2-5)
A long barrow at ST92494418, 1.4m high with a broad flat top. The ditches cannot be seen on the ground. Surveyed at 1:2500 (6)
No change; report of 6.11.68. correct. (7)
Fragmentary human bones found in a badger hole, date unknown. Salisbury Museum Acc. No. 1984.12 (8)

Heytesbury 4 (ST30 Kinnes) Mortuary area at southern end with a pit filled with black earth, flint and chalk rubble situated to the north of the inhumations. Covered by black earth, flint, chalk and sarsen. The mound comprises a black earth core capped by chalk rubble. (11)
