Pen y Gadair Fawr (Round Cairn) by GLADMAN What do you mean it's "up there?"...The daunting, foreshortened approach to the cairn from the Grwyne Fawr to the east. An easier - although much longer - alternative follows the bridleway past the reservoir to swing 'round via Pen y Manllwyn and Waun Fach (despite its name, the highest summit in The Black Mountains), before descending beside the stream in the picture. Note that route finding on these mountains is very difficult in mist since there are very few landmarks of any use. Take care.
