Often wondered what these 'paired' forts were like guarding the gorge; did'nt realise you could see Stantonbury as well, which, admittedly a long shot has Littledown fort as its pair, and then there is the Solsbury/ Bathampton forts guarding the river Avon as well. moss Posted by moss

I didn't realise you'd be able to see out from the trees at all there. You've inspired me to go, Juamei. People get so focused on the suspension bridge (which is indeed very cool) but the gorge itself is really the main attraction surely. Rhiannon Posted by Rhiannon

@moss, the intervisibility of hill forts in Avon is quite amazing. Maybe its because there are just so many in such a small place... From the top of Maes Knoll's cross bank, I reckon you can see at least 6 other forts and possibly more.
@rhiannon, I find it dangerous driving the gorge road, I spend so much time staring up and around I'm a danger to myself and others!
