SATURDAY 18TH NOVEMBER
PEMBROKESHIRE COLLEGE, HAVERFORDWEST
Stories behind the headlines...
This year has seen archaeology from Pembrokeshire featuring in our newspapers and on TV. The 2006 day school will tell some of the stories behind these headlines, concentrating on recent fieldwork and exciting discoveries.
Neil Fairburn, archaeological project manager for the Milford Haven - Aberdulais natural gas pipeline, will lead a session on: "120km of pipeline - preliminary archaeological results". He will explain the process of archaeology in this project, as well as talking about individual finds including the Bronze Age 'canoe' from St Botolphs.
Professor Geoffrey Wainwright will lead a session entitled: "Beyond Stonehenge - Carn Meini and the Preseli bluestones". He will discuss his recent fieldwork and new dating evidence.
The third session wil be entitled "Badgers, bodies, bombs....an early Medieval cemetery on Castlemartin Firing Range, and other stories." This will be led by Gwilym Hughes (Cambria Archaeology) and Polly Groom (Pembrokeshire Coast National Park). It will examine the preliminary results of this summer's early Medieval fieldwork.
Tickets are available at £6.50 each, and the cost includes lunch and refreshments. A booking form can be downloaded below, or contact Polly Groom (07866 771175 or polly@cambria.org.uk) for further information.
