Bathampton and Claverton Downs

Standing Stones

Fieldnotes

It's not a commonly known spot, even locally.
It's rumoured there was a stone circle up here once, but don't worry about the controversy - have a look at the lovely golden stones. The best one is about 6ft high with a coxcomb and a hole through it.
Then follow the footpath to Bathampton and check out the caves where people were once buried, to be sitting looking out across the valley !!!*

*I have no idea where I got this notion from. Perhaps it was modern folklore / rumour from someone at the university? or just my wishful thinking.
