Megalithic pages Reconstuction of the Grand menhir brisée (Grand broken menhir) The largest menhir in the world. Once standing upright, it was over 20 meters in high - although 4 meters of that hidden in the soil. There was an opinion that it was standing until the 16th century when it was broken whether by earthquake or by lightning. Now it seems almost sure that it was broken down shortly after been erected (some 3000 years BC) and divided in four pieces to cover contemporary dolmens. But this never succeeded.
