Gallowsclough Cob

Round Barrow(s)

Miscellaneous

Gallowsclough Cob is a bronze age barrow (or the low mound that remains of one) on top of Gallowsclough Hill. When it was excavated a cremation was found in the centre; the mound had been reused for an interment later on too. During building it was kerbed with turf. A 'cob' is a lump of something - I guess before ploughing this site was a bit more of a bump.
