Burn Hill Barrow

Round Barrow(s)

Fieldnotes

Burn Hill is a marvelous site, arriving from Thame you need to take the left hand turn from the main road in Stone sign posted "Eythrope only." The footpath begins a short way down the road on the right hand side just before the National Speed Limit signs.

The name Burn Hill is something of a misnomer as there are two mound like hills next to each other. If they are indeed barrows (the site is only idenitified as a hill on the map) then this is an absolutley fantastic site!

Both mounds are topped with trees and huge. From the top you get views across to Thame in one direction and in the other you look directly over the top of Aylesbury which is rendered invisible by the landscape apart from the ever present monolith that is County Hall peeping over the top.

Wonderful!!
