This stone measures about 12" by 6" max. Any notions as to the origin of the marks/ markings would be gratefully received! Posted by tomatoman

I have recently found something similar at Wren's Egg and Nest in Dumfries and Galloway - parallel lines with a diagonal incised across them. I was going to take my images down as I've been veering toward's Tiompan's opinion that mine are caused by multiple ploughmarks, and only tech limitations have prevented me from doing so. After seeing your picture I'm minded to leave them for a bit...doesn't hurt. Take a look and see what you think. I'm certainly very intrigued by yours, in view of the location where found. Well done for using your eyes. spencer Posted by spencer

Thanks for the response........I've already looked at your images (incidentally I found very large plough marked slabs in Lincolnshire years ago which looked like elaborate tomb carvings, so I empathise).
This stone was one of two or three found that day at the location, but this one was the most convincing to my eye, having looked at "butterfly" etchings at a number of Orkney locations.........but this may be just delusion on my part.
