Creagach Leac (Round Cairn) by GLADMAN Ailsa Craig shimmers beyond the significant grassy footprint of the summit cairn, as if briefly materialising from a parallel world. Like Arthur's Avalon.... or Ferry's, if you prefer?

Thank you.

I live on an island but the elevation of Alisha Craig is rather special... like Bass Rock, perhaps?

There is something magical about these places, so close you feel you can touch them but can't. Drifting in and out of the mist. They have a feeling of other world about them. Isle of Man too, just on a bigger scale but same for me. thelonious Posted by thelonious

I have never heard Ailsa Craig called "Alisha" before. Paddy's Milestone mibbe - but it is not "Alisha"! Ailsa Craig's profile from East and West is that of an inverted pudding bowl. The view looking at it from the North (eg Levencorroch or Largybeg on Arran) is much more pointed.

Have either of you been across? I tried to a few years back on a trip to the Girvan area but couldn't fit it in with other stuff. I would love to one day. Also tried Bass Rock a few years back, even got the boat out to it but the swell was too big to land. I don't have much luck with islands. Still there's always a next time and I guess they ain't going anywhere soon :-) thelonious Posted by thelonious
