Drannandow Cairn

Cairn(s)

Drannandow Cairn (Cairn(s)) by postman Possibly the worst picture ive ever posted, it was really chucking it down, but it does show the three cairns in an almost row, the third being this cairn at the tree line.

You say possibly the worst picture, but I like it. It's like a memory, blurred, imperfect, and the motion, walking in the rain amongst the cairns, it gives it a sense of urgency, of life. A moment which won't be repeated. My senses respond more to something like this than the thousands upon thousands of carefully composed mountain landscape photos etc. Sorry if that sounds a bit wanky. But I do like it as an image for those reasons! Evergreen Dazed Posted by Evergreen Dazed

The first couple of lines are just fine, I like and understand your point of view, though I already have a blurred imperfect memory of it so a clearer picture would be preferable for me. I can only speak for my mountain pictures which are usually the opposite of carefully composed, some are taken whilst still walking, some are taken whilst still shaking from dealing with the heights, some are taken shielding the camera from the rain or being buffeted by wind. The pictures I post are just the best of sometimes several hundred which I think best describe the place, if they perhaps come off as carefully composed then I'll consider myself a photographic genius. But I would never say wanky. postman Posted by postman

One of the joys of a website that gets contributions from a load of people with different views is that people looking at it will like different stuff. I love all of it, it's all our heritage and I think it's great that people even care about these places, let alone come here and share it with everyone else. So let's have lots of wobbly rainy cairns, and lots of lovely mountains, and everything in between. thesweetcheat Posted by thesweetcheat

ey up, just want to make clear I wasn't "dissing" anybody's photos. I always manage to do this - I'm an expert in creating misunderstandings. I was trying to say, badly as it turns out, that photos in general that seem designed to produce some stirring of the soul don't tend to get me as much as ones like this. in general. that's all. all the landscape stuff on here is lovely, no question about it. keep em coming, indeed.
