Fox Tor & East Moor

Fieldnotes

I ‘did’ the East Moor area in a huge circle to include the stone rows at Fox Tor and East Moor, the Nine Stones of Altarnun, and others. I choose to visit Fox Tor first so drove almost up to Tregune (Farm) - unlike what the OS map suggests, the tarmac road doesn’t really go right up to moor. The best place I could find to park was just off the lane about 100m short of the turn to Tregune (Farm).

I must say that of all the Cornish uplands I have been on East Moor was the most confusing and difficult to find my way around. Very few features to focus on and Fox Tor is so littered with rocks that it was hard to know what was what. And the other parts are basically just scattered with gorse (although quite a few bits had recently been burnt off when I visited). After a while everything looks the same! And the boundary stones that I hoped would be easy to find and would then guide me to the Nine Stones, are not obvious to find at all.
