It looks like a nice place to hang out and the light looks nice on your visit.

Why is it that C shape do you think? Were they relying on the slope? it doesn't look that slopey on the map? Or would a bank have spoiled the view from inside and so someone put a stop to it.

It was a very nice place, I wasn't expecting the ditch to be so deep.

Coflein just say "probably ploughed out". The northern end of the C is definitely cut off, but the southern end has a kind of bank ending to it, as if it was designed that way.
