Scartbaun

Stone Row / Alignment

Link

Mega-What

After looking at Ruggles book on Prehistoric Astronomy in Britain & Ireland I had this noted as being aligned to the Major Moonset. However this link which features pictures of the row points it toward toward the major moonrise.

Derek , you were right the first time , although it is a few degrees of declination off target . tiompan Posted by tiompan

Thanks George - was just pointing out what Michael Wilson has pointed out on his website Megawhat. I'm not qualified to comment on his calculations etc so said I would just make it clear. bawn79 Posted by bawn79

Derek , it's not that obvious but if you go down to the fourth pic in the link , the associated text points out that the moon rise orientation is too far north and the moonset direction is the likelier , if not spot on option . tiompan Posted by tiompan

Very good George - thanks for that, makes me a bit more confident that the database is reasonably accurate. bawn79 Posted by bawn79

Hi guys, I think you might have misunderstood my notation. The old pictures were annotated using labels and pointers. The pointers should not be mistaken for trajectories. I would never claim that the moon rises in the south-west! My NEW pics do feature lunar & solar trajectories, accurately drawn. Scartbaun is not aligned to the major standstill though - it is cleverer than that... Posted by MegaMike

Just saw your comment Mike - I had another look at your site. I really like the updated explanations and your theory makes more sense to me now. bawn79 Posted by bawn79
