I think it's interesting to see where settlements used to be, in a time when the climate was a little warmer, and when the forests were more or less uninterrupted, and when the tree-line was way up the mountain sides. With the added shelter afforded by trees, plus the available hunting, it explains why settlements were a lot higher above the base of the valleys than they are today. Cheers, TE. Yes, and the valleys are surprisingly sheltered even without the trees. The high ridges give great protection.	Posted by thesweetcheat 16th June 2012ce
