Rock spiral found in Dingle could date back to Bronze AgeA rock bearing what is believed to be a rare piece of art dating back to the Bronze Age has been discovered on an outcrop alongside a medieval pilgrim route in west Kerry. The discovery two weeks ago of "a perfect spiral" on a rock off the main Cosán na Naomh on the Dingle peninsula, is being assessed by county archaeologist Michael Connolly. Measuring 19.5cm, it was found by local man Colm Bambury between Cill Mhicéadair and Baile an Lochaigh near the foot of Mount Brandon. The area is dotted with standing stones, Ogham and beehive huts and other monuments from early Christianity. The drawing is believed to be thousands of years old and follow-up investigations by Mr Connolly found indications of Bronze Age enclosures in the immediate vicinity. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0927/1224304800865.html |

| What stood out for me, was the fact that it was in an area not only of standing stones and bronze age settlement but celtic christianity as well, there must be a 'magic' outcrop/mountain somewhere, be nice to have some photos of the area.... |

| I thought the chalking looked a bit unnecessary and sort of half hearted. The rock carving was covered with bright white lichen anyhow! It was almost a thing to do for the camera like "This is what an archaeologist does with these rock art things..." |

| When I was looking for more stuff on the Dingle came across the fact that you should'nt use any stuff on rockart to highlight it, so I think he should'nt have been using chalk. I had a 'fastcapture' programme (30 day trial) for capturing photos for videos which worked fine but its disappeared now... |
