Hi - I was at Torhousekie Stone Circle again today. However this time I have abit more knowledge of what is going on at stone circles thanks to my trusty dowsing rod.
Long Story short, the two outer of the 3 large middle stones mark Nodes (Crossing points of male and female earth energy lines). The central smaller stone is the centre of a female Vortex, an in-pouring of earth energies into the Earth.
Also in Torhousekie all of the outside stones make other nodes too all 20 of them.
Hope that helps.
PS. Most stone circles have a vortex in the middle although not always at the exact centre of the stone circle. Also most stone circles have nodes around the vortex anything from 4 and upwards to any number of stones usually ditacted by the siz of the stone circle.
