It's a great site. I've wanted to go for years, since the paper TMA and the black and white photo in little Burl.

I pretty much followed the same route as Sanctuary with a diversion to Clitters cairn. My only issue with the circle itself is the central stone that doesn't look right to me. I think the pools around the stones are quite nice although there is always the worry of the stones becoming unstable.

Because it was so dry I went to Goodaver more directly than I originally planned from here, but followed your advice regarding using the forestry tracks. By the way the "private" section has now been mostly felled.

Is it the shape of the central stone or position of it, or something else that bothers you tsc? The pools, that vary in size, tend to give a somewhat off-balance appearance I feel. I did a fly-over with my drone and shot an aerial video of the circle. Rather windy on the day and Donald (my drones name!!) got knocked about a bit, but not a bad vid.

Here is a vid of the cairn...

And one of Goodaver circle. I was only there two weeks ago and noticed the felling that had taken place. It was a really creepy place beforehand with so many dead and dying trees.
Toward the end of the vid you will come to the snakes head stone as I've labelled it. I mentioned the snakes in my field-notes that I'd been warned about and had a close look at it this time. As I walk around it I zero in on the 'head' of the snake to highlight what appears to be fault lines underneath it giving the appearance that it has been cut to shape and fitted on top of the base stone. I'm sort of torn between natural or otherwise!

The reason I was out there again was to see how bad it was with regard to reed and vegetation growth and if bad would my little team like to deal with it. No brainer when you see it!!
We'll do it but only providing we can drive in from the road to the south across the landowners fields and use blade cutters and strimmers. Takes forever having to always use garden shears and secateurs to keep NE happy!
