John Michell did not make mistakes with measurements. That wasn't how he worked when it comes to the alignments of menhirs in West Penwith. He went and looked at what was on the ground and used large sale OS maps and aerial photos to plot his alignments. It's all set out in The Old Stones of Land's End.

He did make mistakes ,it took me 10 minutes to highlight the problems with Men an Tol. Did you miss it ?
Others pointed out the statistical and other problems decades ago .

In case you did miss it .
Here is the link to the problems of one of the “leys “ . Discovered in a few minutes last night after seeing mention of the site here . I am unaware of the particular errors having been noted before .

The main content being .
“The suggested Ley line is said to align with a boundary stone at 4475 3586 and this alignment is oriented to 66.5 degrees pointing to the spot where the May day sun will rise .
For starters the grid ref for men an Tol is wrong , being 29 yards from the monument .
There is no boundary stone at the suggested grid ref and neither the wrong grid ref or the correct one for Men an tol is aligned to the putative boundary stone at 66.5 degrees . Needless to say the spot given for the stone is not visible from the monument .” I should have added the actual boundary stone is not visible from the monument either .

You probabaly missed the Bob Forrest link too where you will find Bob , a chum of Michells pointing out some other mistakes with measurements .
