Am tentatively hoping to visit Donegal next year, all being well. Am rather intrigued by this stone circle which to all intents and purposes seems to date to the Iron Age rather than the Neolithic.

Is this uncommon or something specific to the north of Ireland?

Nothing definite about the date but it is unlikely to be IA .
More likely Bronze Age , Burl suggests as early as 3000 BC .
