There’s someone plodding along behind him as he rides on horseback at Rollright, suggesting a retainer perhaps? Another one of him there holding what looks like a yardstick. Plate 9 from above shows him again pointing towards Silbury, with someone sat on the ground. Plate 23 shows again someone sketching. Plate 24 also shows one figure sitting on the ground while another stands. Ditto Plate 27 showing a seated figure sketching while the other stands next to him. Someone sketching again in Plate 32. A woman in Plates 34 and 35 who seems to be offering him something.

We do know he was meticulously accurate with his drawings, and the figures are also probably for scale, but there seems to be a bit more going on as well. It’s unlikely that he would have travelled alone so not unreasonable to imagine that he’d take friends and assistants with him (not to mention his dog :-).
