Drew, thanks for the kind words - what stayed with me was the account of 'folk memory' from someone quite young who, along with his wife, was passing it on to their own children. The fossils themselves are quite difficult to photograph without a camera a lot more sophisticated than mine because they are so tiny. I do have two or three though.

Scubi, a great personal account - thanks. I did hesitate to report on this place because of the risks involved in publicising any ancient site. As you will know though, unless you are 'a local' it isn't that easy to find and does involve either wading across a stream or jumping through a hedge a field or two away.

I hadn't heard of 'crinoids' before this visit.
