There is also many references to stones in the histories of the old 'desert' saints in Wales which I have always meant to collect together. St.David was of course born in the centre of the protective arms of a stone circle whilst the storm raged outside. Whether the myth comes with time or is paganism turned into christianity by zealous monks is of course open to dispute....

The Sussex saint, St. Cuthman has many associations with stones some of these appear to be amalgams of other stories...something older than christianity perhaps??
