Well I hope he took his shoes off, or at least wore soft sole ones ;-) Seriously, you’re doing a grand job Mr S, and your observations might have come in the nick of time. Let’s hope the powers that be don’t just fence it off for H&S reasons and then forget about it. If it needs fixing then that’s what’s gotta be done.
That's my only concern as well LS. Not helping matters is the 'fallen' backstone lying inside the chamber which leans against the leaning closure stone thus increasing the pressure on it. A suggestion would be (if possible) to raise the back of the fallen stone up slightly to keep it from touching the upright stone. Jacks could possibly be used internally for this or a sling strapped around it and just lifted slightly by a machine able to do this in a confined space. It could then be permanentally supported from underneath and that rear opening gated off to stop JP from climbing over the stone as they do now. Dunno, just musing over the possibilities other than going the whole hog.
