Hi,

I am hoping to visit the stone circles & fogou's etc.....in the lands end peninsula on the week of the summer solstice.
Could anyone give me tips on where is the best place to stay, the best place to visit for the solstice sunrise & the best sites etc....

Many thanks in advance.

DezmonD.

Hello there, I gained my inspiration from some of the people who post on this website and from Julian Cope's book The Modern Antiquarian - there is a superb section on Cornwall. I also purchased a small book for under a fiver published by Cornwall's Historic Environment Unit "Cornwall's Archaeological Heritage" (available from the bookshop on Chapel Street in Penzance).

I don't know where to start with the solstice sunrise etc - there are people here far more knowledgeable than me on that score. Used this company http://www.westcornwallcottageholidays.com/ to book a well equipped, reasonably priced flat in Penzance which overlooked St Michael's Mount. Watched the sun come up a couple of mornings and had a strong feeling that had I been there midsummer would have seen it rise over St Micaheal's Mount.

Enjoy your holiday.

PS: Before my stay in April, I heard it said that if you only visit one ancient site in Cornwall make it this one:

I agree.
