I was wondering who decided on which elements at Avebury go to make up the ‘official’ Avebury Complex? This came about during a discussion when I was told that an archaeologist had said that the Ridgeway Path had no connection with the Complex whatsoever as it was only the Main Circle and the Stone Avenues and Silbury Hill etc that were included. Considering that the path runs immediately adjacent to the Sanctuary and may be an important factor for its very reason for being there, I can't see how it can be anything else but an integral part of the Complex. Then again, I suppose it’s how you interpret the Complex that decides in your mind what is included and what isn’t!
