So Atkinson fits in with the others ? Perhaps as a human being he would have - he was a conscientious objector, after all? But being thought of as a maverick within such an insular world as archeaology would probably mean all concerned needed to get out more. I would say he fits the bill , but don't see Burl in that light at all . It's odd how the term has different values ,for many being considered a maverick might be be thought of as a racy and positive for others it's pejorative .
