It seems people want to treat ancient sites like their own personal property, it just is not. I whole heartedly agree with you on that one. Myself and members of the Dartmoor Preservation Association along with E.H. have spent much time , and effort , on the western side of Dartmoor surveying and restoring the cairns on the hill tops. These cairns had been remodeled by locals, who go onto the moor without adequate protection, then think they have the right to build a shelter in the cairn to get out of the wind and rain. These are listed ancient monuments and should not be touched. Some of the ones we restored on Western Beacon had shelters rebuilt into them within a few weeks. I know this is a lot more extreme than leaving a corn dolly but that is where it all starts. Peace , Lubin.
