The statement that the Long Man has not has a spruce up since 1999 seems like a bit of an insult to these folks: http://www.anderidagorsedd.org/longmanpage.htm

Okay, so strictly speaking they say that he has not been WHITEWASHED since then, but the implication seems to be that nothing has been done to keep him visible.
