What would a Redwood log weigh I wonder?
And how many blokes would that lot represent?

Brilliant, Nigel! So my speculation about independent pairs seems to be unnecessary in the light of that picture. Now, I wonder who it was who originally stated that "oxen are notoriously difficult to control in teams".

Excellent picture..

What is that - Eight pair of oxen pulling a log downhill on a skidded roadway?. As with Roman style Ox Teams, the link to the log would be a Chain. Iron or Steel. Not quite the same as Neolithic Rope. I would have thought. No 'stretch and tug'..
