Part 2 of the post.
Our knowledge on the stones has been gone for thousends of years, reduced to sun-round and thats it, who what when where why, are some of the questions and it takes some time to visualise with the eye and brain to re-adjust to the stones themselfs.
If I did this research on my own it would mean at least 50 years of research as every stone is an individual to make it even less easier. But the answers are there, there is no problem with that.
I know that eradicating the area and the cutting roads slicing our cultural heritage is taking out a key factor to understanding what our ancestors put into so much effort to achieve and pass on. It is most clear that these sites did have a meaning, reasoning, many things going on, including leadership, beliefs, rituals, wisdom, lifestyles. This can be distracted bit by bit and after sometime it feels like one is nearly having a conversation with someone from the past, fragments.
It is a lovely study and interesting is that not a day needs to go by without finding another piece of the puzzle. It can't even be done without a joint effort.
Relentlessly going through masses of material that is out there. (Like when you hit the level of obsession :-)
Another interesting thing is,
One will never be able to understand the stones if one doesn't interact with them, one is challanged to ... the other way round from the connection of the artists painting with the visual receiver (Mona keeps eye contact thing)
There are so many points that should be discussed, archaeology wise, research wise, but also a wider picture and so many problems that need to be addressed like the deep ploughing we all know how devistating it is for the archaeology landscape, like instead of a random doing as is done (my dog used to think like that :-) there should be an exchange of thoughts and sometimes solutions are not that much out of the way, like perhaps if a farmer wants to deepplough on a 'new' field then first a non intrusive survey should be carried out. Not forbidding but solving. (just an example) From one idea comes the next.
If you or your archaeologist wants to exchange some conversation, you're always welcome.
