The "Sculptured" stone of Hamarberg...

Hi, All,

I was leafing through one of the guidebooks I collected when I was up in Shetland in the late eighties/early nineties, (many moons before I joined the benighted celebrant choir thatis TMA) and it has a photograph of a horizontal pasty-shaped stone (6ft 4ins by 3ft 3ins) with a series of "man-made depressions" (cups?) along one edge.

I remember looking for the stone when I was up there, but a combination of inclement weather and my fear of stepping on private land put paid to my inquisitiveness. I was just wondering if anyone - especially you more northerly folk who know about these things - had seen it "in the raw" and can confirm if the cups are /are not an artefact, or if someone has a better photo of said beast (just out of interest, like).

Peace

Pilgrim
