It isn't just Cope's European expedition that have dilated our options, reading the Orkney research agenda I find that 'proper' archaeologists now think that e.g. promontory forts are actually pre-broch and that farm-mounds can date back to the Neolithic (on Sanday the survey uses the word tell instead in order to ?disquise this massive shift in opinion). In the light of Dr. Alison Sheridan's talk it would seem that a third radiocarbon revolution is in the process of stretching many timelines (tho it is nice to know that the pottery typologists have been proved correct).
