Wall in a tree

I was up this oak tree last night, in our local hillfort
(Bulstrode Camp, Gerrards Cross, Bucks), when I noticed a
brick in a hollow of the tree

I thought "that's a bit untidy", went to get it out, and
realised that there was a contoured wall built into the
hollow, about 30ft up

there was "1900" written into the top, so I assume it was a
Victorian centenary celebration thing, but very odd

the tree next to it had a chimney built into it, which
doesn't seem to be a good idea, judging by the state of the
tree

I am *not* making this up - photos to follow. Does anyone
know anything about this, or any other examples?

cheers

RG
