Historically - no

Presently - having your photograph taken on top of and sitting there pondering the meaning of life.

Possibly the builders believed that the earth sustained human life and that this was a parental function. If they put breasts somewhere it would help them drink the (imaginary) nourishing milk of earth mother and so increase their vitality.

Or maybe they were kind-of grand garden features. My garden has a bird feeder and the people walking past see the birds feeding and think I'm great for feeding the birds. Something like that - but much much bigger.

Go and sit there then tell me (us) what it's about ...
