so, ocifant, I see you went to see the sarsens in the church (at alton priors) too. I read that the church is built on a mound so it's higher than the surrounding fields. Did you notice if that was true? If so was it a large sort of a mound (like part of the landscape) or a smallish sort of a mound (like a barrow)? I was just thinking about the stones again and wondering if they couldn't have been part of a burial chamber or summat. Though it would be in a rather unusual spot, down in the valley. The site is pretty much on the extended line of the ridgeway?
