The OS seem to have made very free with their chisels on old stones but in one way this process has ensured their survival (the stones not the OS).

In Cheshire/Staffs we have found the following have benchmarks (to name but four) - details of all the sites are on the Portal:

one of the Minn End Lane standing stones - Cheshire

The Plague Stone - Cheshire

Reed Hill round barrow

Are you including trig points on barrows? Try the barrows at Nab Head and Sponds Hill (also in Cheshire). Some great destruction there!
